EYEBEAM: Temporary Exhibition and Studio Space

540 W. 21st. Street, New York City

The entry with security grille in down position. The grill, fabricated from perforated aluminum is the first of three transparent and translucent layers that form the rear projection facade of the entry. Beyond the rear-projection screen is a courtyard, open to the sky.

The interior multipurpose hall is 7500 square feet. One of the great public spaces in New York.

On the site of Eyebeam's new 90,000 square foot building to be completed in 2005, the existing taxi garages were renovated to provide a 7500 square foot multipurpose hall, artist in residence studios, classrooms and meeting spaces. As this is intended as a temporary space, the architectural interventions are minimal.

The "Light Box" Entry inserted into an existing garage oppening. The Guillotine type security grill with the rear projection Screen beyond.
